America's greatest President and greatest speechwriter. Just an amazing amount of charity, grace and meaning in such a brief speech. Layers and layers.

Yep. Had to memorize this one for a class a few years ago. Can still recite it.

In my friend group, we had trouble telling when someone was telling the truth or joking, and so used quotes from the Second Inaugural to declare authenticity. Obviously we just shortened that to a lil custom Lincoln emoji as soon as was practical, but still, I love this. Sending it to everyone!

Lovely reminder of a time and a man with such clear moral vision. Thank you.

My favorite speech of all time.

I don't get to DC often, but when I do the Lincoln Memorial is my favorite place to visit. I really love the vibe of people just hanging out there. Reading the Second Inaugural is always part of the experience. As moving as anything in all of DC.

I will never get over how deeply this speech cuts. It’s shocking stuff (and so, wholly appropriate), imo.

I hadn't noticed the arithmetic of 250 years before, But once you do, Lincolin's speech can be seen as the founding document of the 1619 project.

Thank you Jerusalem. There are very few things in our world more powerful than Lincoln's Second Inaugural. But I think the Obamas gave us something special for our times yesterday (6/18). Perfect for Juneteenth. If you have time, here were my thoughts about today & yesterday:
