I gifted my teenage cousin Emotion on vinyl for Christmas a couple years back, and when I saw her parents at a recent family gathering, they told me she’s been hyping it up to her friends and said Jepsen is an “underrated” artist. An album so good, even too-cool-for-school teens can’t deny it!
It's a little charming to learn that people 200 years ago were sophisticated enough to understand that extraordinary weather patterns weren't supernatural in origin, but then rationally concluded that the cause must be enough soldiers firing muskets in Europe to blot out the sun.
They actually got pretty close! They figured out that the explanation for low temperature and weird pollution in the snow must be lots of smoke in the upper atmosphere, so they tried to figure out what event in the past year could have caused it. I guess they didn’t know about the volcano so they guessed the big thing they did know about.
