"You don’t need to believe people really can change their sex to think that trans people deserve access to the primary kind of medical care that resolves the empirically documented harms of gender dysphoria." -- and also, you don't have to agree that trans medical care is a good idea to think that adults get to make their own medical decisions!

This is not an issue I am well versed on or care all that much about, but I do think the author makes a great point but maybe misses half the picture.

I think a lot of people felt like social institutions: Hollywood, video game studios, schools, athletic organizations, and governing health bodies really rushed past public opinion and medical data to push the issue into everyone's field of vision, and in some cases, like schools, prisons, and family court it seemed rather...poorly thought out.

I think some acknowledgment that was a weird time, and the future will be different would help the cause. Some sense of limiting principles.

But hey, I think the same thing about the pandemic response, so maybe that's just my desire shared by few others.
